Psychotherapy

Getting enough education is one of the main factor to get this disorder to be treated. Getting an one to one psychotherapy session is usually the preferred method and it’s length is about 10 – 12 sessions. This type of therapy can also teach the patient how to be relaxed with imaginary techniques. That can be used and practiced during the actual panic attack to lower the immediate physiological tension and fear that emerges along.

During this period of attack, it is understandable not to discuss any relevant topics such as dying, passing out or becoming embarrassed. Rather a cognitive or rational – emotive approach is recommended.

Providing psychoeducational groups in this area are often more productive and benefitting. Another method is biofeedback where an unique specific technique which allows the patient to receive an audio or visual kind of feedback about their body’s physiological responses while learning about the relaxation skills is also an appropriate psychotherapeutic intervention.

Making it a daily habit and practice on things that is learned through the session is a must. It is stressed, that if the patient is unwilling to lean and follow the strict homework then this therapy is wasted and will not be successful.
